Since the yard has absolutely nothing growing in it, I figure that this would be a good year to actually do something to it.
After recently watching some urban farming videos, I got inspired to go ahead and invest in making this yard grow. The landlord had no immediate landscaping plans with this part of the houses, so gardening commenced.
To work the soil though, I needed some heavier duty equipment from the hand tools I have. The obvious acquisition was a tiller. I did some research and the cost for the tiller I got would result in two days of rental from the local hardware store. So I settled on buying.
This tiller was really easy to assemble out of the box, and incredibly easy to use. Due to the recent rain, the blades ripped through the moist dirt like nobody's business.*
Throwing in some organic matter and soil from some of the older containers in the container garden, and this land turned into a garden plot.
A little work with the hoe and shovel, and the beds were partially shaped, all in a few hours. Now to prepare them for planting....
*When operating this tiller, be sure to not run over the power cord. Also, be sure to know where buried pipes are prior to digging.
